1st Dibs specialises in listing Vintage, Antique, Mid Century Furniture & Lighting, Fashion, Jewellery and even Great Old Houses. If you’re obsessed with old stuff, as I am, and you’re not familiar with 1st Dibs, you are about to have your mind blown! The lovely Doris at The Way We Wore, L.A first told me about 1stdibs.com and I scribbled down a little note to check it out, only now am I finding a stolen, quiet moment to browse the site. Holy Moly, it’s truly phenomenal.
It’s the ultimate dream Vintage Lifestyle neatly packaged into one juicy, delicious hunk of a website. You can search through by style e.g ‘Art Deco’, ‘Rococo’ or take a look at the themed searches. Turns out I’m the kind of person that feels the need to look through the entire site systematically selecting the items of extreme lust factor. So here are some of my personal favourites:
This Autumn means spending a little time in Paris, which is always a real treat. I found a number of pieces that would slip into my daily Fall wardrobe all too easily. 1. Cocktail Dress by my all time favourite designer Ceil Chapman, the print and style look perfectly suitable for autumn time. 2. 1950’s Black Evening Sweater with Mink Collar, ideal for the brisk evenings sat out at the Paris Jazz Cafe 3. Chanel silk fallie shoes, pure Parisian 4. Vintage 1950’s Pave Faux Pearl Rhinestone Make-up Mirror Compact 5. 1950s Carved Lucite & Pierced Metal Box Purse, I’ve been on the hunt for one of these little beauties…this may just be ‘the one’.
To set off my ideal Autumn ensemble I selected a couple of beauties. 1. Natural Pearls Lovebird Pin, what can I say? 2. Pearl and Diamond Platinum Bracelet 3. 1950s Modernist Gold Pill Box, so dreamy. 1st Dibs also has a selection of homes to compliment your wardrobe and accessories choices.
Now, not that I’m looking for a house but if I was I’m pretty sure I’d be able to find more than one I’d want to call my own under the ‘Fine Homes’ section in the category entitled ‘Great Old Houses’. These houses are truly great and unquestionably lust worthy, there are properties listed from all over the World from Malibu to France. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been accused of being ostentatious and camp, I think this Luxury French Villa (close to Monaco) would suit moi perfectly. Priced at $25,527,600 I may have to save up a little first. This home exudes 19th century charm. It was built by the renowned Danish architect Georg Tersling, who is famous for a number of villas and buildings in the area. The ceiling heights are over 50 feet, with decadent sweeping staircases for me to glide down in my silken dressing gown.
I would highly recommend setting aside some alone time, grab a drink and daydream at all that 1stdibs.com has to offer.
