Over the years The Fabulous Times has had the privilege to share the work of some incredible female entrepreneurs. Each female entrepreneur has offered pearls of wisdom and advice for any would-be entrepreneur looking to start a business. I thought it would be good to look back and dig into a few of those pearls of wisdom. In this post 3 female entrepreneurs share how to start and grow a business. Let’s dig in, shall we?
How To Start A Business
When it comes to starting a business each female entrepreneur interviewed has entered a field that they have a personal passion for. It is this passion that has helped them through the challenging times.
‘Try to work in a business that coincides with your passion or at least with a personal inclination.’
–Judith Wade, Founder of GGI Grandi Giardini Italiani
Follow Your Passion
In many cases our entrepreneurs have created a product or service that did not exist. Entrepreneur Pam Gruhn created Frenchic Paint, fuelled by her passion for bringing old furniture back to life. This passion meant she identified an opportunity to create an eco-friendly chalk paint for other people interested in up-cycling old furniture. Frenchic is the UK’s fastest growing chalk paint company.
‘My passion for bringing old furniture back to life rather than see it go to landfill is what inspired my quest to create Frenchic.’
–Pam Gruhn, Founder of Frenchic Paint
How To Grow A Business
One of the biggest pearls of wisdom shared by the majority of our female entrepreneurs is to start small. Start small and be prepared to work hard!
‘Be prepared to work incredibly hard and not make much money but get great satisfaction from running your own business. Start small and let is grow slowly and gradually.’
–Anna + Ellie, The Flower Appreciation Society
Start Small
Anna and Ellie of The Flower Appreciation Society share the importance of starting small. Hard work for very little money is one of the overarching themes throughout our female entrepreneur interview series.
‘Don’t get frustrated at first, because the reality is that it can take people years to understand their market, and sometimes it involves tweaking your prices and you’re offering. Don’t give up!’
–Mavis Amankwah
Stay Focused
When growing your business, having a plan, tweaking your plan and staying focused is another take-home lesson taught to us from our female entrepreneur interview series. Mavis Amankwah is an award-winning entrepreneur, diversity ambassador, motivational and public speaker and the founder of Rich Visions. In our interview with Mavis she teaches us that staying focused, tweaking your business plan and not getting frustrated is paramount.
Grow Organically
So you’ve got your passion, created your product, started a small business and now you’re growing. Maybe you’ve tweaked your business plan once or twice to react to your market. One of the major lessons shared by our female entrepreneurs is to grow organically. To market your business with a good ppc agency and reach your target demographic.
‘Keep picking yourself up, build things up gradually and really listen to your customers.’
–Karen Mabon, Designer
Listening to your customers and targeting their specific needs is what keep your business on track. I shared more motivational wisdom from our female entrepreneurs in my previous post, which hopefully contains even more take-home pearls of wisdom.
Stay fabulous
