A dear friend of mine contacted me recently, excited to tell me that she is planning a trip to Toronto. My Canadian love affair is no secret. I wanted to get together a few travel recommendations. What better excuse to look back through my travel pics? i thought I’d create a mini travel guide for any of you who might be planning a trip to Toronto. Here’s a look at what you could do with 48 Hours in Toronto, Canada…
If you’re looking to book a Toronto holiday you may well be surprised by how reasonable flights are from the UK. Toronto is known for being a vibrant, multi-cultural city, think the Manhattan of Canada- if you will. Toronto is bursting with creativity, with endless things to see and do, making it the ideal city break destination. If you’re lucky enough to be spending 48 Hours in Toronto, you won’t be short of things to discover.
Toronto Aye…
C N Tower
The tallest building in Toronto is the C N Tower, you can’t miss it. The C N Tower literally towers above everything else. The C N Tower has its very own observation deck offering the best views of the city (providing you’re not scared of heights). You can also dine in the 360 Restaurant which revolves. Enjoy dinner with an ever-changing vista. In 1995, the CN Tower was declared one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers and really is iconic to the Toronto skyline. Well worth a trip to the top, unless you don’t like heights.
Niagara Falls
If you’re visiting Toronto it’d be rude not to hop on a train and marvel at one of the wonders of the World, the Niagara Falls! You can travel by train from Toronto to Niagara Falls with ease. Niagara Falls blew my mind. There’s nothing like the majesty of Mother Nature to give you perspective. It is said that the amount of water flowing over the falls is equivalent to a million bathtubs full of water every minute!
Whilst at the Niagara Falls, visit the Niagara Floral Showhouse. Set in green gardens lined with blossom trees the Floral Show houses are large greenhouses filled with seasonal florals, turtles, rabbits, little birds and cactus. The Greenhouse is a climate controlled environment with over 70 free flying tropical birds, exotic plants and running water fountains.
Shopping
Many moons ago Erin from The Coveteur recommended her favourite vintage shopping spots in Toronto. Toronto is still known as a bit of hotspot for vintage shopping. Toronto is a forward-thinking city with a great variety of shopping, you’ll find everything from eclectic vintage stores to high-end smoke shops like Nova selling oils, flowers and extracts.
Food Market
Toronto has some incredible food destinations. One not to be missed is St. Lawrences Market. Everyone loves an indoor food market, right? Head to St. Lawrences Market and look for Kozlik’s Mustard. Kozlik’s Canadian Mustard was established in 1948 and has remained a family owned company to this day. Kozliks produce hand-made mustard in small batches. Their recipe has not changed in over 60 years and once you taste it, you’ll know why! Don’t forget to chat to the Farmer’s and Merchants selling their own produce, ask for recommendations- they’re so friendly.
As well as historic hotspots like St. Lawrences Market there are new delicious destinations popping up all the time, like Stack Market. Stack is a new outdoor market made of shipping containers. Like any place worth visiting, it is the people that make it. You’re never far away from a good belly-laugh in Canada or at least that is what I have found to be true. If you’re fortunate enough to be visiting the land of Maple Syrup, Moose and Mounties, have a blast. You can take a look at my previous post ‘a day out in Toronto‘ for more recommendations.
Stay fabulous
