The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
Good Fronds X United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
As a website championing plants and sustainable living we actively work towards several of theSustainable Development Goals or “SDGs” outlined by the UN. Many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals are interlinked and act as a guide for businesses and organisations to work towards a more sustainable future for nature, people and our big, beautiful planet. Here’s a look at the practical actions and values that we have outlined to help us contribute.
PEOPLE:Sustainable Cities For All
UN Sustainable Development Goal 11.
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Rapid urbanisation is resulting in a growing number of homeless communities, inadequate and overburdened infrastructure, and services, worsening air pollution and unplanned urban sprawl. In poor and densely populated urban areas, there is over one billion people living in informal settlements and slums, globally.
In a report published by Shelter charity, it was stated that 1 in every 154 people in Greater Manchester experienced homelessness.
As Good Fronds is based in Manchester City Centre, UK, we see the devastating reality of the homeless crisis, daily.
We make monthly contributions towards Barnabus, a Christian Homeless Charity providing a lifeline to the homeless in Manchester. Barnabus have been bringing hope to the homeless and vulnerable in Manchester for over 25 years.
PLANTS: Climate Action
UN Sustainable Development Goal 13.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Climate change is an undeniable threat to humans. The devastating effects are already visible and will continue to escalate unless we act now. Through education, innovation, and creativity we can make the necessary changes to protect our planet.
We publish articles that aim to educate, inspire and raise awareness on how we can all live more sustainably to help reduce our environmental impact and reverse climate change. To grow our impact and take further climate action, we have partnered with Ecologi to plant trees. Trees soak up carbon from the atmosphere and provide a home for wildlife, they give us clean air to breathe and are the most effective solution to reversing climate change. Help us by gifting more trees to restore our planet.
PLANET: Sustainable Consumption & Production
UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Worldwide consumption and production are the driving force of the global economy. Many of the products that are made rely on the use of the natural environment and resources in a way that continues to have a destructive impact on the planet. As a society we need to change the way we design, produce and consume to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change. As a sustainable lifestyle website, we promote and champion sustainable brands, products, and services. We promote Fair Trade, Ethically-Sourced, Organic, Purpose-driven businesses.
We promote, and share articles centred around conscious consumerism. We publish guides to help you as a consumer make more informed planet-friendly purchases.
