Whether you’re a lifelong plant parent or just starting your houseplant journey, there are lots of great ways to introduce plants into your home. No matter how much experience you have with plants, you should be confident when it comes to including them in your house or apartment.
1. Pick plants that compliment your paint colour
When it comes to choosing colours for your home, you’ll be able to find plants to compliment, if you have neutral tones try introducing bright green houseplants like Boston Ferns. If you have a dark interior, try incorporating white tones, add a Peace Lily or two. Plants can be a great way to make your paint colour pop.
2. Add houseplants into your rental
When you rent, you want to incorporate decor that will not leave a mark and can go with you to your next home. Houseplants are the ideal way to add personality and bring a space to life without drilling holes into the walls. You’ll still no doubt need end of lease cleaning services as this gives you the opportunity to spot any damage that may have occurred during your stay. Adding statement houseplants to shelves can be a great alternative to hanging prints on the walls.
3. Use plants to liven up your bathroom
Bathrooms are the perfect place for plants because of the humidity. However, not all plants enjoy high humidity, for example: succulents prefer drier conditions and will rot if kept constantly moist. So avoid these in your bathroom.
If your bathroom has natural there are lots of different plants that you can add to liven up the space. Try ferns, bamboo, begonias, orchids.
4. Think vertical!
If your floor space is limited, think vertical! Hang spider plants, ferns, ivy, and more in hanging baskets. This way you’re adding a pop of greenery, but don’t have pots taking up your floor. Plus, it’s great to watch them as they begin to trail and grow really long!
5. Bring a shady corner to life
Every house has a sad forgotten corner, show that corner a little TLC with a houseplant or two. Decorate a shady corner with different types of indoor plants like tabletop plants or hanging plants. This will enhance your living space and give a home to a shade-loving beauty. Add a Snake Plant, Staghorn Fern, Pothos, Maidenhair Fern, Dieffenbachia, Philodendron or Lucky Bamboo.
Whether you’re a homeowner or renter, houseplants are a great way to add a little life to your space. If you’re unsure if you can keep a plant alive, start with one small plant and build your confidence slowly. Bringing nature into our everyday lives has the power to heal us and lift our spirits- they look pretty too!
