1. A Pumpkin Pie-Inspired Facial Mask:
You will love this moisturising and cleansing facial mask that really smells just like Pumpkin Pie!! Mix up 2 teaspoons of canned pumpkin, ½ teaspoon of honey, ½ teaspoon of milk, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, and ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg. Skip out on using any ingredient that you may be allergic to, and if you’re not sure, conduct a small skin test by placing a dab on your hand and waiting to see if you develop any reactions. Since all of the ingredients are both natural and mild, you shouldn’t have to worry. Apply the mask onto a clean face and enjoy it for 15-20 minutes. The vitamins and conditioners in the pumpkin and milk will give your skin a natural glow and soft touch, while the honey and spices will combat any issues with acne and result in cleaner, tighter pores. Best of all – you’ll feel as if you’ve enjoyed a whole Pumpkin Pie – without any of the unwanted calories that come with it.
2. An Apple Cider Facial Toner, inspired by Ms. Scarlett Johanssen:
Simply make your own mix of half water and half apple cider vinegar. Then dip a cotton ball into your homemade toner and rub a light amount all over your face and neck for instantly tighter pores and a radiant glow. Scarlett Johanssen claims that this super-inexpensive and simple DIY trick is the secret behind her movie star, porcelain skin.
3. A Blueberry Yogurt Hair Mask- For healthy hair and a little glow:
Get your hands on an eight ounce container of blueberry yogurt – preferably the kind that has “fruit on the bottom” and has a strong purple-red tint to it. Rub the mixed yogurt into dry hair, from root to tip, just as you would apply hair dye. You should have enough to drench all of your hair; then use a hair tie to wrap your hair up into a twist bun, and sit back and relax for up to 20 minutes. Rinse your hair off in the shower, being sure to get all of the blueberry out. Try not to use shampoo and conditioner – if you can resist. The natural tint of the fruit will leave your hair kissed with a hint of red color. The lighter your hair color is, the stronger the tone of color will be left on your strands for up to three days, even on black hair. Plus, the cultures in the yogurt will leave your hair impeccably conditioned, for soft, shiny, healthy-looking hair from root to tip!
4. A Peppermint and Sugar Rub Down, in the shower or bath:
Skin feeling a little scaly? No problem. Combine 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil and 4 drops of essential peppermint oil. If you don’t have any peppermint oil, you can also make your own mint-infused oil by crushing a sprig’s worth of mint leaves into the extra virgin olive oil. This little trick will actually make your homemade rub even more natural. Then, hop into the shower or tub, and take your time massaging the minty rub all over yourself – from head to toe. You may soap off after, but feel free not to, so that your skin stays even more super-hydrated. Plus the scrubbing action and mint will cleanse your skin plenty. Best part of this remedy: the smell of the peppermint will clear your mind and leave you feeling refreshed.
5. A little Tea with Music, for the soul and mind:
Be sure to enjoy yourself throughout your at-home spa process, by making yourself a beverage of your choice and listening to music that will help calm you. I chose a hot cup of Tazo’s Green Ginger Tea to sip on and listened to the soulful, soothing sounds of Tona la Negra. Whatever you pick for yourself, just make sure that it makes you feel good all over.
Whether you choose to do all of these foodie-inspired spa treatments – or just one – I guarantee that you won’t regret taking 5 – or 30 minutes – for a little R & R that I bet you really deserve.
