Interview with Fabulous Healthy Food Blogger, Tieghan Gerard, of the Half Baked Harvest. At first glance, the recipes at the Half Baked Harvest food blog seem like an undertaking, but they also promise a memorable experience, equally in putting the dish together as enjoying the completed creation.
Young Tieghan began reading food blogs at the age of 13 and began flexing her creative food flare at the age of 15 years old admitting she tries out all her recipes on her younger siblings, lucky them! We caught up with Tieghan to hear of her cooking influences and inspirations:
Tieghan Gerard the great mind behind Half Baked Harvest has a way of coming up with unusual food combinations, detox drinks, smoothies and few naughty treats that make you think, Why didn’t I come up with that?
If you’re palette is in doubt by the thought of “Brazilian Steak and Grilled Sweet Potato Fry Quinoa Bowl with Spicy Coconut Tomato Sauce” you can almost hear her saying, Trust me on this! Tieghan may be young but her recipes reflect a taste for mature flavours that possess worldly influence.
Q: At what point did you begin to think about what sort of foods you put into your body and decide to make more conscious meal choices?
Honestly, I was the weirdest child and ate things like carrots instead of potato chips, dabbed the grease off of my pizza with a paper towel and never, ever drank any kind of pop. I guess I have always leaned towards the healthier side of things. With that said, I do know how to make a pretty good dessert…it’s all about balance if you ask me!
Q: What is one dish you enjoyed growing up that showed you eating healthy could be really delicious?
There are so many! My Dad would make pasta salads filled with raw broccoli and bell peppers, but my two favourites are either my Dad’s pasta dish that is basically all about the veggies and is simply tossed with olive oil and fresh basil or his eggs and whole grain toast in the morning. Oh – and definitely giant bowls of fruits and apples and nectarines. YUM!
Q: Food holds many special memories and traditions; what treat comforts you most and why – whether it is a healthy one or not?
There are so many foods that have so many great memories for me. The one that comforts me the most is so simple though, roasted chicken and rice with a big side of roasted veggies (and I do mean BIG!). I used to have it SO much as a kid, but I swear it’s so comforting!
