Its become somewhat of an annual tradition visiting the Tatton Park Flower Show, Cheshire with my Mother, a tradition that I relish and feel eternally grateful to be able to enjoy.
As the flower show falls just past my birthday it’s always a treat to get the tickets as a present. There’s no better way to celebrate all the vibrant blooming colours of summer all in one place. Here are a few pictures from the Tatton Park Flower Show 2016.
This year the exhibitors at the flow show displayed a much wider array of planting and landscaping that was much more achievable and transferable to the average garden, less conceptual and much less sculptural than previous years. This change in mood was a welcome one and sparked way more ideas and inspiration for the average green-fingered enthusiast like myself.
As ever there were some exhibitors that knocked floral displays out of the ballpark with impressive structures intended for weddings and much more elaborate affairs such as this huge floral arch.
We browsed the tents filled with award winning flowers from professional growers. We purchased some fabulous plants for my upcoming wedding that shall be used to decorate the tables at our reception venue. It’s always a great privilege and incredibly valuable to be able to speak to the growers and get the best advice.
After a respectable amount of browsing we sat in the sun for a picnic. The weather stayed fine most of the day with a few showery intervals, which was a great improvement on last year when the Heavens opened and we got royally soaked. We ate a lovely fresh salad, strawberries and ginger biscuits. We purchased a special pink trolley from one of the sellers to fill with our treasures. As we went to the show on the Sunday, every year at 4pm the exhibitors sell of their plants at discounted prices which means a flurry of shopping before everybody heads home. The Tatton Park Flower Show always signifies that summer is here and that new adventures are on the horizon.
In the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
