There’s nothing quite like blowing the cobwebs off, getting a lung full of fresh air and marvelling at the majestic grandeur that is Mother Nature. I thought I’d share a few photos and recommendations from our 24 Hours in The Lake District: Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria.
Mr T’s latest work project has meant he’s been working away in the lovely Lake District, ever the opportunist I took this as a golden opportunity to sneak in a little weekend break- well why not ey?
Bowness-on-Windermere is a town in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. Due to its position on the banks of the beautiful Lake Windermere, the town has become a tourist honeypot boasting some fantastic restaurants, shopping, walks and breathtaking scenery.
Lazy morning overlooking Lake Windermere:
A great way to start the day is with a lazy morning admiring the Lake from the MacDonald Old English Hotel & Spa, there’s just something very calming about staring out a body of water. Offering a selection of afternoon teas and light bites the MacDonald Old English Hotel & Spa is centrally located and a great starting point for discovering lovely Bowness-on-Windermere.
Stroll by the Lake:
The Lake District is pretty famous for its many hill walks, if you’re a bit of a lightweight (or just after the more relaxed option) a stroll around the edge of the lake is a brilliant way to take in the scenery. We strolled around enjoying the breathtaking scenery. As we’re still in the depths of winter there was snow over the hilltops that looked incredible against the crisp blue skies. Snowdrops peppered the ground giving a little glimmer of the coming spring. 
Shopping in Bowness-on-Windermere:
The selection of shops in Bowness-on-Windermere is impressive, you’ll find the usual ‘countryside’ favourites such as Barbour, Joules, Fat Face as well as independent galleries and boutiques selling ample Beatrix Potter merchandise, handmade local produce and artwork.
Dinner at Hyltons:
We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Hyltons Restaurant, we were initially drawn in by the cosy look of the place and were not disappointed. Hyltons Restaurant serves traditional English cuisine and a few Italian favourites. I had the Lancashire Hot Pot made with tender local lamb, potatoes and served with red cabbage- delicious!
