Whether you work solo with a virtual team or run a business with a team, you’ll excel if people love working with you. Working as a team is the key to any successful business. It’s important to invest in and empower your team in order to thrive. Here’s a look a how to become a dream to work with and in turn empower your team…
Gratitude:
As ever expressing gratitude and appreciation towards your team will empower them to do their best work. Inspirational Thought Leader Marie Forleo talks her love language and how she uses gratitude to empower her team. Acknowledgement and appreciation are a great way to encourage and empower your team.
Goal setting:
It is very important that you set clear goals and objectives. You also need to need to make sure that you communicate any expectations that you have clearly. If you change the goals that you have too often then this will make it very difficult for your team to keep up and it will also make it harder for them to work towards any kind of progress.
Seek Input from Your Employees:
You need to base your decisions on the input that you get from your team. Sometimes it’s completely acceptable for you to not be the smartest person in the room, and asking for help doesn’t always imply weakness either. Don’t be afraid to talk to the people around you, and always ask for their input if you want to try and get some additional support.
Value their Time:
One of the biggest motivation killers when it comes to the workplace is employees wasting their time on things that are not required at all. They may have to go to meetings that do not concern them, and they may also have to take valuable time out of their day to handle things that they shouldn’t. If you want to help them here then only invite them to meetings that they can have a direct input in, and always let them know that their time is valued.
Ask about Emotions:
You would be surprised at how much you can learn about your team when you chat with them about their emotions and the way that they feel. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about how they are feeling, and also chat with them to see if there is anything that you can do to give them more personal support. This could include giving them more time off work or even letting them leave early one day out of the week. This won’t have a huge impact on your business, but it will help you to feel more connected to your team. If you want to get some additional help with that then why not look into a reward and recognition?
Eliminate Negativity:
It’s so important that you eliminate negativity. Constructive feedback really is required, but you don’t need to focus on the bad things all the time. You need to praise your team as well and you also need to give them the help they need to make positive changes. It’s only by doing this that you can then begin to give them the best working experience. This will also help them to feel more at ease when working for you as well, which is always a bonus.
