There’s no denying that you’ve turned 35 when you’re blogging about ways to make your home energy efficient. Let’s face it, we all need to be more conscious with how we are living. No matter what age we are, we need to reassess our impact on the planet. With the colder months approaching, I thought I’d share a few ideas of how to make your home energy efficient…
Side note: If you haven’t done so already, you should begin with switching to green renewable energy. There are lots of green energy providers who are making use of the renewable energy sources that are available in abundance, like energy generated by wind and water. Clean energy is one of the biggest things that needs to be tackled in the climate crisis. If we all make small changes to our daily life’s, collectively it will have a big impact. Once you’ve switched, then it’s time to keep the heat from escaping and to use less energy, here are a few tips to get started with…
Install Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is very common in Northern Europe and is becoming increasingly popular here in the UK. According to the Centre for Sustainable Energy underfloor heating can achieve energy efficiencies of over 90% and be cheaper to run than radiators.
Lower Your Thermostat
Adopt the habit of lowering the temperature on your thermostat when you’re not at home. When you feel a little chilly maybe try popping on a cardigan and socks before cranking up the heating. I’ve been known for my lavish use of the heating in the past, so this is a tough challenge.
Natural Insulation
There are lots of eco-friendly, natural insulation to choose from. If you’re like us and the insulation in your loft leaves a lot to be desired, then natural insulation is a great option. You can get all sorts like sheep’s wool insulation, plant fibre insulation, all are less toxic and sustainable.
Hopefully this offers a little inspiration for a few ways you can make your home more energy efficient.
