With the world full of uncertainty in 2020, more people have been turning to natural ways of self-care. Rather than dwelling on circumstances which cannot be controlled, a more introspective attitude is known to enhance wellbeing, with meditation being one of the most powerful examples.
Meditation aims to calm the mind as you allow thoughts to come and go without judgement. CBD Oil can help this process, easing the body into a state of both relaxation and awareness. By integrating meditation as one of your daily CBD rituals, you learn how to practise dissociating from chaotic thoughts, and settle into a more peaceful mode of being.
The Spiritual History of Hemp and Meditation
Deep within the Himalayan mountains, the hemp plant grows in abundance. For over four millennia, it’s been revered by local communities as an integral element in ritualistic practices.
Cultivated from Kashmir in the West to Assam in the East, the hemp plant became renowned for its ability to heal and focus the mind for meditation. There are, in fact, a number of references to the plant within ancient Ayurvedic texts detailing its uses as ‘spiritual medicine’ by sages of the time.
And its reputation as a sacred plant stretched far beyond the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. In Ancient China, for instance, hemp was used by shamans to cultivate a gently altered state of mind. In Germany, furthermore, hemp became associated with the Norse goddess of love, Freya, and was believed to endow one with a divine force when consumed; the English word ‘hemp’ actually derives from the Proto-Germanic word ‘hanapiz’, which itself originates from an early Scythian word.
Rituals & CBD
We may not be sadhus or shamans, but we can still use CBD Oil to soothe the mind and relax the body into a meditative state. During a weekend with the Om Yoga Show, it was clear there are many advantages to using CBD alongside a regular meditation practice, especially when incorporated into daily self-care.
Taking a moment to relax and unwind can be enhanced with the gentle healing power of CBD. You could simply light a candle and relax in the evening with a guided meditation.
Calm Body, Calm Breath, Calm Mind
CBD, as the legal, non-psychoactive and non-addictive sibling to THC found in cannabis, has the potential to uplift the body by improving relaxation and increasing an overall sense of wellbeing. The natural properties of CBD Oil, when integrated into a wellness routine, work to help soothe anxious minds and ease tense bodies. With a greater sense of relaxed wholeness, you’re better able to settle down on the meditation stool and forge a healthier relationship with your thoughts.
“Nature can bring you to stillness, that is its gift to you”
– Eckhart Tolle
