In today’s post Sustainable Fashion Stylist and Slow Fashion Season Ambassador, Fabulous Miss K tells us all about the Slow Fashion Season Campaign. A Global Campaign that has been set up to try and combat the impact that the fast fashion industry has on our planet. If you’re interested in making more conscious fashion choices and doing your bit for the environment then this campaign is for you. In this post you can discover what the Slow Fashion Season is all about and how you can get involved…
What Is Slow Fashion Season?
Fast Fashion is killing our planet – we have all seen the news, TV coverage and shocking images on social media. So, what can you do about it? In the Summer of 2019, we took on a big issue: combating the (fast) fashion industry. 14,487 people across the globe, joined together in the decision to not buy any new clothes for three months. Now we’re back again! We made a slight change to the Slow Fashion Season 2020 Campaign due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are aware that many small businesses and entrepreneurs have been affected and are suffering because of the virus.
Helping You Make Conscious Choices…
The aim of the Slow Fashion Season Campaign has always been to raise awareness about the fashion industry and how you as a consumer play a role in it. As a consumer, you have the power to change the industry for the better. Our ultimate goal is that after three months, you have installed a new habit, to only make conscious fashion purchases. That is why we have adjusted the campaign to fit the current situation and instead of not buying anything new for three months, this year it’s all about making conscious choices. This includes supporting the small sustainable fashion labels that are going through a difficult time. Remembering to always think twice before you buy!
Why We All Need To Take Action…
The fashion industry is responsible for enormous amounts of water consumption (32 million Olympic size swimming pools per year) and CO2 emissions (8% of global greenhouse emissions – and growing fast). If 25,000 people participate, we will save the equivalent of up to 750 million litres of water and 2.5 million kilograms of CO2 emissions.* Also, textile dyeing is the second largest polluter of clean water globally, after agriculture. Then there is the enormous waste creation (148 million tons by 2030) and land use (115 million hectares by 2030), and we haven’t even started on labour conditions yet…Enough numbers, time for action!
So How Can You Join The Slow Fashion Season Campaign?
Join us for the biggest crowd action to date and make conscious fashion choices from June 21st to September 21st of 2020 together with 24.999 other people! We will provide you with enough tips and information to guide you throughout your Slow Fashion Season.

As a life long vintage wearer I am honoured to be an Ambassador for Slow Fashion Season – so what does that mean? I will be encouraging people though social media to sign up to the campaign and organising events such as workshops to help people shop more sustainably. Actively promoting and working with other sustainable fashionistas to get the message out to as many people as I can.
I’ll be sharing more on my blog and on my IGTV videos, showing you how you can “Shop Your Wardrobe” and wear what you already own, featuring small sustainable brands, demonstrating how you can mend your clothing rather than throwing it out and lots of other tips on how to make more conscious choices during the 3 months and beyond.
“If 25,000 people commit to making only conscious fashion choices from June 21st to September 21st, we’ll all do it!”
