Looking out over the countryside the other day wearing my favourite tweed jacket, I thought to myself, I must have owned this jacket for nearly ten years! This Tweed Jacket has seen me through some good times, like the time we went horse riding in France. Occasionally you get that one piece in your wardrobe that stays with you through the years. If it’s one thing my tweed jacket has taught me, it’s to keep it simple.
As the years roll by, fashions come and go in cycles, there are few simple classic styles that stand the test of time. Now, it’s safe to say that our own personal style may change over the years, but in the words of Coco Chanel ‘fashion fades, only style remains the same’ Here’s a little look at a few ways to keep it simple when it comes to style…
Buy less
For me those few investment pieces are the things I always go back to and enjoy wearing the most. Classic styles like a Trench Coat, a good quality Macintosh or a trusty Wax Jacket are worth investing in, you’ll wear them again and again. Investing in classic styles is a great way to keep it simple, if you invest wisely you’ll end up with a few favourite pieces that go with almost every outfit.
Hair today, gone tomorrow
Getting caught up in major hair trends can lead to some pretty cringy photo albums of the future. Now don’t get me wrong I’m all for experimenting and creativity but mercilessly following hair trends can be a dangerous game >insert reference to my 80’s mullet here<. When it comes to hair and keeping it simple, often nature knows best, like keeping chemically products to a minimum, creating a hairstyle that works with your face shape and not getting too swept up in the latest trends.
Beauty
The world of fashion and beauty moves at a rate of knots. Once upon a time beauty trends would last for decade long. With so much creativity and so many incredibly talented beauty bloggers out there, inspiration is now at our finger tips. I’m a sucker for a simple, classic makeup look. For example if you catch me on a regular day, I’m more than likely sporting a liquid eyeliner and fairly natural looking eyebrows, maybe the odd bit of bronzer if I’m feeling adventurous!
Makeup has evolved so much over time. For dressier occasions I might mix it up with a vintage style winged eyeliner and red lipstick. Given that there are so many cosmetics out there to own, I find that keeping it simple with a good liquid eyeliner, classic red lippy and a neutral eye shadow palette is a good simple kit. There are lots of liquid eyeliners on the market, like those from AVON that can accentuate the eyes, to create a simple, classic look.
Keeping it simple in our busy, hectic lives is just one way to create a little more calm in our everyday.
