Ode to autumn… Life in the month of September is laid waiting for a fresh start. Summer nights are over, the light is dwindling and autumn begins to take full effect. Summer holidays have ended, families are reunited with their homes and children are packed off ready for the new school year. An abundance of blackberries has started to appear on the bushes just ready to be picked for a crumble…
Caught in the melancholies of August we have sighed over the disappearing strawberries, searched for ‘ankle boots’ at least once on google, accepting that bare legs and sandals are soon to be a distant memory. Autumn has come to teach us to let go. Now, we romance of cosy nights in, hot chocolate and the books we are actually going to read this time. We forget the runny noses, frosty mornings, sore throats and clinging to our hot water bottles like life rafts. Despite the lack of daylight, the dropping temperatures and the inevitable flu, Autumn to me is the true beginning of the year. Autumn is when real resolutions are made with all the energy and enthusiasm gathered throughout the summer. You can take a read of my previous post ‘Turning over a new leaf- Autumn resolutions’ for a little autumn inspiration. Autumn is the time to turn over a new leaf .
Autumn is the time for reflecting on our list of goals for the year, a time to set our intentions for the coming season and beyond. Autumn is a time for walking in the woods, picking blackberries, noticing the leaves turning golden and rejoicing in the changing of seasons.
Autumns early sunset gives opportunity for candlelit dinner parties and meeting with friends. Autumn is the time to truly nail that Halloween costume, to visit a real life pumpkin patch and drink Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s. The exciting possibilities of falling in love with the new season are endless.
“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple.” ― J.K. Rowling
