A day at Salt’s Mill- Saltaire World Heritage Site: Saltaire Village is near Bradford in West Yorkshire, England. It is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill and this village on the River Aire. Saltaire was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. Unlike many world heritage sites Saltaire is not a monument it is a living, breathing community where people actually live!
Saltaire village is made up of homes, pretty little tea rooms, boutique shops and boasts an array of markets, events and live music gigs that play throughout the year. Salt’s Mill is dedicated to art with a large permanent exhibition of artist David Hockney’s work, an amazing bookshop and café. 
The main street in Saltaire was lined with stalls selling freshly baked goods, handmade gifts and clothing, we flitted from stall to stall picking up a few bits, trying on hats and laughing quite a lot.
We went along to the annual Saltaire Festival to marvel at the beautiful old mill buildings, drink tea, eat cake and do a spot of vintage shopping (of course).
At the foot of the main street is the river where you can jump on a river boat trip, there’s also a large park where bands played on an open stage and stalls were set up with donkey rides for the children. On a normal day the park is the perfect place to go for a walk or take the family for a picnic.
Victoria Hall is a beautiful Grade II* Listed venue in the heart of Saltaire which opened its doors in 1871 and was host to a huge vintage fair which spanned throughout two large rooms and had a magnificent pop up tea room with excellent cakes from the ladies of Saltaire’s very own 1920’s Interlude Tearoom & Emporium.
We ended a rather fabulous day by looking around the book shop, browsing our favourite magazines and visiting the impressive gallery in Salt’s Mill topped off by a hot chocolate in the Salt’s Mill tea rooms.
Wether you’re a lover of history looking to explore a heritage site or after a fun day out with friends and family Saltaire is well worth a visit, I think the pictures say it all, so fabulous!
