Every year I make a list of 100 things that I’m going to achieve. Some years I publish my list here, other years I opt to keep them in scribble form in my notebook. I’ve been busy working on my list for 2020 and there are a few overarching themes occurring. Ultimately, the main themes for 2020 are more balance, better self-care and growth. Without further ado and with those themes in mind, here are 5 self-care resolutions for a more balanced new year that I hope will inspire you as we enter the new decade…
Mindful Morning & Evening Routine
Creating better balance in our daily routine is key for our overall wellbeing. For me, creating a mindful morning routine has been a game-changer. Creating a mindful morning routine helps to reduce stress-levels and anxiety. Instead of rushing to get out of bed and dashing out of the door, try waking up a little earlier to take a moment to welcome in the day on your own terms.
A mindful evening routine will help with getting better quality sleep and ultimately leave you feeling more refreshed and ready to take on the world! Making small changes to your daily routine can make big shifts in your wellbeing. There are some simple tips that will help you to get a better nights sleep. Something as simple as switching off all your tech gadgets and phone two hours before bed can make a world of difference. One of my self-care resolutions for 2020 is to continue to build on my mindful morning and evening routine, to try new mediation apps and get a lavender pillow mist.
Reduce The Clutter
Decluttering is a form of self-care or at least that is my experience. I’ve been slowly decluttering for a few years now, as silly as that sounds, it’s true! Every weekend I take a bag of things to donate to charity and still it seems there is always more to donate. Progress has been slow and gradual, but it is noticeable. Where once there was a double wardrobe stuffed full of things I never wore, now lies a modest clothes rail with the clothes I wear everyday- actually hanging up! Decluttering helps to create space for a more calm headspace and less stress.
For any of you thinking of starting out on your own decluttering journey, I have shared a few ways to calmly declutter your home, tips that I have found to be valuable and stress-reducing. My aim for 2020 is to continue slowly decluttering, to not just declutter my physical space but also my digital home too, time to tidy up my inbox (s), hard drives packed with photos and streamline the ten years of blog posts!
Keep Learning
No list of self-care resolutions would be complete without talking about growth. Each year I focus on a subject to learn more about. For 2019 I studied Nutritional Healing and also vowed to learn more about SEO, I still have a lot to learn in both areas. There is something quite satisfying about learning a new skill or an entirely new subject, it keeps your mind healthy, expands your horizons and will build your confidence.
It can be a struggle to find time for learning something new. You could try something as simple as reading a non-fiction book for half an hour before bed or listening to an informative podcast on your commute. This year two of the areas I am aiming to learn more about are financial wellness and the moon! I challenge you to find a podcast and a YouTube channel to help you learn more about your chosen subject this year…
Invest In Community
In 2019 community was a significant theme, I wrote about Growing A Garden In The City as I was proud to be part of the Hulme Community Garden Centre share offer project over the summer. Our neighbourhood community also formed a gardening group, where we join up once a month to weed the flower beds and plant flowers. For many people life can feel lonely and joining together as part of a community group can be a fabulous way to connect and build relationships. This year let us all invest a little time into our community, maybe join a group or form one and work together on making our world a more beautiful place for everyone.
Protect The Planet
2019 has been the year that Greta Thunberg got everyone talking. The Climate Crisis is happening and it is time for us all to make change. We must protect the Planet for ourselves and for future generations. Anyone with children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, we must all make change now for them. No matter how small those changes are, collectively we have the power to make a difference. You might start with simple ways that make your house more eco-friendly or by reducing your carbon footprint. We have been making small changes, we started by reducing our household waste, opting to avoid buying single-use plastic and switching to green energy. In 2020 we vow to continue our efforts to protect the Planet and to continue to spark conversation about Climate Change, no matter how awkward.
Self-Care Resolutions For 2020
With the dawn of a new decade almost upon us, it is time to reflect and assess where we are in life, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically. The very thought of reflective practice can be anxiety causing, particularly if you’re not in a good place right now. Wherever you find yourself, making resolutions doesn’t need to be some grandiose life-changing revolution. Go slowly, be gentle and take your time. I hope these five self-care resolutions act as an inspiration to get you started.
Stay fabulous
