One of Tofino’s most notable hotels standing on the Western edge of beautiful British Columbia, The Wickaninnish Inn is a landmark and critically acclaimed destination. Conde Nast Traveller (UK) travel experts selected the Wickaninnish Inn as their top hotel in Canada in their 2012 Gold List. We enjoyed a memorable afternoon sipping mocktails, eating seafood, laughing hysterically and marvelling at the stunning Ocean view from the Pointe Restaurant.
Inside The Wickaninnish Inn
Standing at the very edge of the coastline The Wickaninnish Inn boasts spectacular views across the sprawling, unspoilt Chesterman Beach. On the approach to the Pointe Restaurant you get a welcoming scent of aromatherapy oils coming from the Ancient Cedars Spa situated next door. Once inside, the interior combines luxury and nature with the use of natural wood formations, decorative trees and traditional native artworks. There was an incredible natural wood framed mirror by local artist Frank Armich, Frank creates some truly spectacular pieces from wood. You can see more of Frank’s incredible wood art & sculpture HERE.
The staff at the Pointe Restaurant were extremely attentive, friendly and efficient. Our jackets were checked at the door and we were shown to our table. We sat down to enjoy drinks followed by a mid-afternoon bite. The views from the Pointe restaurant are truly breathtaking, you could sit and stare out at the ocean for hours. The tide was making its way in and the sun was shining. Starting with cocktails, well in my case a “mocktail”, I ordered the Apple mocktail which was light, delicious and refreshing.
Vancouver Island is renowned for its fishing trade so when it came to ordering food the Clam Chowder was pretty high on my agenda. I had never tried Clam Chowder before, not that I can remember anyway and certainly never anything as good as this. The West Coast Clam Chowder with Wild Side Shrimp, Local Fish, Corn & Bacon was so fresh and full of flavour, not to mention filling.
The atmosphere in the Pointe Restaurant was cozy and relaxed, the fire in the centre was so lovely and each table had a stone on with a sunken tea-light candle holder lit for ambience. We reclined in the comfy chairs and chatted about our future projects and dreams.
Dinner was followed by a somewhat windy walk on the beach jumping from rock to rock avoiding the tide coming in, the sun was glorious. For more nature-immersed vacation ideas, you might like to view our Top 30 Ecotourism Properties around the World guide.
