If you’re an Electric Vehicle (EV) owner or you’re thinking about buying your first electric vehicle, then you’ll know that there’s plenty of advice out there, it can quickly become confusing. To keep things simple, we’ve compiled our three top tips to help you on your electric vehicle journey.
1. Think Carefully About Insurance
Firstly, car insurance is an important administrative aspect to driving, whatever your car looks like; it is a legal requirement for driving on the road, and with the right coverage can be a real financial lifeline. As a new electric vehicle driver, you want to make sure that you get the right kind of cover to avoid any expensive situations arising, if you’re considering getting an EV and want to test the water by driving a friends car, it is important to have temporary car insurance so that you are covered to drive someone else’s car. Undeniably electric vehicles are expensive, so make sure that you don’t get caught out.
2. Don’t overcharge or let your battery go flat
Sounds simple, but this is an important point to note. Lithium-ion batteries work best between 30% and 90% of their capacity. To make sure that you get the best performance out of your battery and keep it in a healthy state, try and keep your electric vehicle charging within this range when possible.
3. Identify your local free charge points
You can charge your electric vehicle for free at certain charge points. Of course, free charge points (in the UK) will not be around forever. Identify your local free charge points and make stopping by them part of your daily routine. You can take a look at the zapmap app to find your nearest free charging point.
